The Railroad

from Don't Lie Awake by Confyde

/

about

I've been singing this song at my solo acoustic shows for a good five years or so now. This full band arrangement was put together for a future release but since it's finished performance-wise I was keen to share this demo-mix version. Enjoy!

lyrics

I wish you could see your smile
As you sing a song of romantic bliss
Then hear your trembling voice
As you give up on our love
You can't handle it

You'll fly and run until it hurts
Away from all that puts you first

You can't cross my state lines
When you're miles overseas
You can't bring a homage to this love
When there's a place you'd rather be
Come on can't you see all that you've thrown away
'Cos you know I never want you to be no slave

I wish you could see your mind
As it agonises over what to let go
It cannot see your heart
Filled to bursting
Blind to its glow

That sentimental joy those tunes are longing for
Is exactly what we had
Is exactly what we bore
That melody is fake
When love's burned at the stake
You can't sing its praises now
That you've knocked it to the ground

"And deep inside you know there's no excuse
For what they did to you but our warnings you refuse..."

I tied myself to the railroad when I fell for you
Blind to the train that was coming to slice us in two
